Oh Hi There!! So, what to say about myself... I kinda hate Bio's, they always seem so wanky and full of bullshit. I'll give you a brief run-down of my career so far, but I'd rather let my music speak for itself. So here's some basic background info...
So my name is Nik, and I play under the alias of 'Nik Import' or 'Import' - depending on whether promoters are having to charge by the letter for their designs (Lol). I'm 26, and I've been mixing since early 2007, kicking off my career playing Freeform Hardcore. This was an uphill struggle, due to the decline of happy hardcore in general, and the sudden decline in Underground parties. So I pushed my style into the club scene - Mainly at Wanted Thursday's, Energy, and Nox Nightclub. After entering a Transmission comp and being passed up due to music choice, but told that I had a great mixing style, I became aware that I was never going to move forward as an DJ by playing a dying genre and made the shift to my second love - Hard dance.
My style was very eclectic in the early days. I was hugely influenced by producers such as Dark By Design, Alex Kidd, Kamui, Scott Atrill/Vinylgroover, and I got a kick out of 'mashing' different genres and music styles together, whilst still 'building' the energy within my sets. I would start my sets with Tech/Hard Trance sounds, building all the way through to banging hardstyle. I eventually got noticed and was brought on by Sublime as a 'Next Gen' Resident DJ, whilst getting regular bookings at Wanted Thursdays, Play Sundays, Impulse, Nox and Transmission. From there, I honed my mixing skills and busted out over 40 promo mixes to boost my profile both in Sydney and across Australia.
The rest is history really! Over the past two years I've played regular spots at some insane parties, such as DEFQON.1 AUSTRALIA, MASIF SATURDAYS, HARDER STYLES UNITED (HSU), TRANSMISSION, MAGIC CITY, IMPULSE, SUBLIME@HOME, BASSQUAKE@NOX, BLACKOUT (Brisbane), ASYLUM (Brisbane), HARDNOX, HYPERSPEED and SUBSONIC (CAN) just to name a few. I've also had regular shows aired on B@M Radio, Beatz Radio, and am now a proud resident of FEAR.FM Radio Station.
