LitteJohn hails from Sydney, Australia and has been part of that cities Dance scene since 1990. Born with the star sign, Taurus, and in the year of The Rat, LittleJohn was born to be a musician
.
As LittleJohn was growing up he learnt the piano from a mad eccentric teacher and at that age the teacher just wanted me to have fun. In his later years he learnt the guitar for a while, but, it never really gelled with him.
LittleJohn was influenced by his elder siblings being the youngest of five kids, and listen to what they had playing in the car, which was 80s rock, which was better than the oldies were playing in the car at that point in time.
However, as LittleJohn started to venture into clubs when he was 16, he heard a different type of music, electronic. Ever since Little John entered his first club and listened to the beat of the base drum he was hooked. Listening to Eurodance back then as it was being played in the clubs, one night in 1994 Little John heard something completely different. Fascinated by this new sound he found out from the DJ it was a Scottish group called, Ultrasonic. The MC shouting “Do You Love Your Hardcore?” sparked the interest of Little John and he went searching for this Hardcore sound. This lead Little John to his first Dance Party and as soon as he entered the party, what he now knows as Happy or UK Hardcore was being played. Little John was memorised by this sound and this lead him to attending Dance Parties every week where the majority of DJs were playing UK Hardcore. UK hardcore at that point in the Sydney scene was the genre that was played most at raves. There was also gabber and hard trance which LittleJohn got into.
This constant rave sounds Little John was listening to at the time, led him to buying a set of decks and some vinyl in 1995. He kept collecting and practicing through 1995 and 1996 and eventually got a gig at Return Of The Living Dead where it attracted 400 party goers.
About two months after that first gig, Little John had his place broken into and two creates of vinyl, turntables, mixer and amp were all stolen. Disillusioned with the whole scene LittleJohn lost his enthusiasm for collecting vinyl and attending and playing at Dance Parties.
It wasn’t until the 2001, that Little John ventured into a record store to listen to some vinyl again. Buoyant by the fresh sounds that were coming out of the UK he decided to buy some turntables and give the whole DJ thing another go.
After playing at many house parties between 2001 and 2005, Little John then got his second gig at Hook Me Up and New Years Day 2006.
By Late 2006, Little John was not finding that UK Hardcore was progressing as he wanted it to be, so he was influenced by his friend at the time that was playing Electro House and so he started buying Electro House vinyl and oldskool UK Hardcore, his real passion.
Again playing at many house parties between 2006 and 2009, Little John then got his third gig playing at Seizmic Freakquences. After that gig, Little John was invited to become a New Holland DJ. More gigs then came in 2009 playing at Technofix, Noiken In Die Koiken,Avalanche, Megatron Recharge and Ways Of The Underground.
2009 was a big year for Little John as he was given his own radio show on dancetransmission.com and is now on weekdays 9am-12pm GMT. If you want to know when LittleJohn is on Dance Transmission I will post on Face Book www.facebook.com/luke.mccabe2 .
In 2010 LittleJohn played at Subcore at Home and Hard As Hell.
In 2011 LittleJohn played at The Dungeon.
After being involved with the Hardcore Scene since 1994, LittleJohn has decided to branch out to suit his tastes in music which is virtually anything between 130bpms and 180bpms.
With LittleJohn’s set up at home now being two Technics SL1210Mk5gs, which he can run Traktor Pro 2.0 through and two CDJs 850s which he can run USB sticks through, 2012 will be the year that LittleJohn begins to start mastering three and then four deck mixing.
Another beginning will happen in 2012 for LittleJohn as he will begin to learn Abelton from a well known Sydney producer and at the same time will nurture his skills that he learnt as a young kid learning the piano and take lessons again with a view to mastering his keyboard skills.
The Future looks bright for Little John and eventually he will start producing his own tracks, but, until he does he is a very professional DJ with many years experience.
