Jesse Savill aka Jigzee has certainly achieved a lot in the Hard Dance scene since his debut in July 2008. Having always had a love of music, it was a desire to be part of creating an environment for others to enjoy the music he is passionate about that led Jesse to acquire decks and begin Djing. In his own words, Jesse wants “to be the DJ that brings that stupid grin to your face when your favourite track is dropped”, so in September 2007 Jesse got decks and began seriously taking on the genre of Hardstyle. With a devotion to the music he loves and a drive to continually evolve as an artist, Jesse has become a crowd favourite at events throughout Brisbane.
In the short time since his debut set, he has immersed an enviable list of supports and gigs, including interstate trips to play for Energy (the Shufflin.com Mecca of Hard Dance) and Impulse's hardstyle room The Dojo, in Sydney and at numerous local events in Brisbane. Having supported international acts like Brennan Heart, Catscan, Brisk, Kevin Energy, Kevin Orpheous, and interstate artists, Suae, X-Dream, Hardforze, Pulsar, Steve Hill and Amber Savage, it isn’t surprising that Jesse has gained enough experience to see him place third at the Defqon 1 Queensland State Finals in 2009.
Drawing influence from good friends and fellow Brisbanites, Friendz and Enemiez, Jesse has been taken under their wing and taken advice from them about track selection, mix composition and stage presence. He also lists a number of other well accomplished Brisbane locals, Baby Gee, Hektic, Kazuki, Decipher & Deeplex as major influences on his style. While the locals have had the greatest influence on him, Jesse also takes great influence from Zatox, Zany, Showtek, Derb, Proteus, Showtek, A*S*Y*S, Hellraiser, Amber Savage and Donkey Rollers in particular. He also says that a major influence on his choice of music is the record label Fusion.
2010 will see Jesse look for ways to really push his unique sound and DJ sets. He hopes to expand his fan base and travel interstate more to showcase the skills that have seen him rise quickly within Brisbane circles. Having said that, there are still a number of goals he would like to achieve at home, including a set at Brisbane’s own superclub, Family.
This year will also see Jesse expand his production credentials and continue to refine his own productions. “I’m not near ever producing something I would deem worthy of playing out, but it’s a fun process, which I’m going to keep chiseling away at” says Jesse.
With the drive to continually evolve and improve, plus the ability which has seen him achieve so much in a short period, Jigzee is certainly a name to look out for in the future of Hardstlye.
